About FIREplanner.AI

Your money should retire before you do. That's the whole idea behind the FIRE movement β€” Financial Independence, Retire Early β€” and the whole idea behind this site. We build the tools that turn FIRE from a Reddit dream into a dated, numbered, stress-tested plan.

Who's behind this

FIREplanner.AI is built and operated by Christie Strategic Ventures LLC, an independent company founded by Ryan Christie. It is not owned by a bank, a brokerage, or an advisory firm, and no financial institution pays for placement in our tools or recommendations. Questions, corrections, and feature ideas go straight to christie.sv@outlook.com β€” and they get read.

How the math works

Every calculator on this site runs on the same transparent engine, and all of it executes locally in your browser:

Monte Carlo simulation. The main planner runs 250 independent market scenarios. Annual returns are drawn from a normal distribution around your chosen average with 12% volatility (roughly the historical standard deviation of a diversified equity portfolio), using the Box–Muller transform. Success rate is the share of scenarios where your portfolio meets its target.

FIRE number. Annual retirement spending Γ· safe withdrawal rate. The 4% default traces to the Trinity Study and William Bengen's research on sustainable 30-year withdrawal rates; we let you test anywhere from 2.5% to 10%.

Coast FIRE number. FIRE number Γ· (1 + real return)^years to retirement, where real return is (1 + nominal) Γ· (1 + inflation) βˆ’ 1. Defaults: 7% nominal, 2.5% inflation.

Barista FIRE number. (Spending βˆ’ part-time income) Γ· safe withdrawal rate.

Financial Order of Operations. The 9-step prescription in the planner follows the widely used FOO framework: deductibles β†’ employer match β†’ high-interest debt β†’ emergency fund β†’ Roth/HSA β†’ max retirement β†’ hyper-accumulation β†’ prepaid expenses β†’ low-interest debt.

Assumptions are conservative where it matters: inflation-adjusted (real) figures throughout, retirement spending inflated at 2.5% in longevity views, and no reliance on Social Security β€” anything it adds is upside.

Privacy by architecture, not by promise

Your income, balances, and budget never leave your device. There is no signup, no server-side storage of financial inputs, and no way for us to see your numbers even if we wanted to. Saved plans are JSON files that live on your computer. This isn't a policy choice we could quietly reverse β€” it's how the site is built.

How this site makes money

Full transparency, because trust is the product: the core planner and every calculator are free and stay free. Revenue comes from three places β€” the one-time Pro Pack ($29, lifetime, unlocks advanced tools), unobtrusive ads, and the free Coast Report newsletter, which may include sponsor recommendations you can ignore. No affiliate commissions shape our math; the calculators say what the numbers say.

What this site is not

FIREplanner.AI provides educational projections, not financial, tax, or legal advice. Simulations model uncertainty; they don't predict the future. Before making significant financial decisions, consult a fee-only certified financial planner (CFP) or tax professional. If our numbers and theirs disagree, ask them why β€” that conversation is worth more than any calculator.
